Guidance on the sensitive handling of pregnancy remains

The HTA published guidance aimed at professionals who work with women who have experienced a pregnancy loss or termination. The guidance sets out what is expected and how women should be involved in decision making about the sensitive handling of pregnancy remains.

This guidance, produced in consultation with a broad cross-section of stakeholders, makes sure that women are central to the choice about what happens to their pregnancy remains. The guidance recognises the particularly sensitive nature of pregnancy loss or termination, and that a woman’s understanding of the options open to her are of paramount importance and should be respected and acted upon.

This guidance was reviewed in April 2021 and no changes were required.
